ESCB Research Cluster 2, 10th Annual Workshop 2026 – Call for papers

International Macroeconomics, Fiscal Policy, Labor Economics,

Competitiveness and EMU Governance

Research Cluster 2 focuses on issues related to international macroeconomics, fiscal policy, labour economics, competitiveness and EMU governance. The annual workshop seeks to foster awareness and collaboration in research initiatives across institutions. Both theoretical and empirical submissions, covering a wide range of topics, will be considered. The workshop is open to European System of Central Banks (ESCB) and Bank of England (BoE) researchers only.

Keynote speakers will be Luca Fornaro (CREI) and Natalie Chen (University of Warwick).

Call for papers

Submission deadline: 31 May 2026

Topics

Relevant topics include, but are not restricted to:

  • Artificial intelligence and its impact on labour markets
  • The role of dominant currencies, government debt, fiscal dominance and safe-haven status
  • International capital flows
  • Labour market mobility, labour (re)allocation, job-to-job flows
  • EMU deepening, competitiveness, industrial policy, savings and investments union
  • Impact of tariffs, geopolitics and trade fragmentation on economic growth
  • Fiscal policy in an era of repeated supply shocks and heightened geopolitical risks

Submissions

ESCB and BoE researchers are invited to submit a draft paper or extended abstract, in PDF format, by 31 May 2026, to ebo_conferences@dnb.nl. Authors of accepted papers will be notified by early July. Please submit papers not yet accepted for publication. 

We welcome ESCB and BoE researchers to express their interest in participating in the workshop as discussants or observers, even if they are not submitting a paper.
